Throttle Cable/Linkage: Service and Repair

ACCELERATOR CABLE

Accelerator Cable:






Removal

1. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle cam.
2. Loosen locknuts on cable bracket and disconnect cable and rubber grommet from bracket.
3. Disconnect accelerator cable from pedal lever by disconnecting cable retaining clip from lever.
4. Feed cable through bulkhead into engine compartment.
5. Remove accelerator cable by pulling it out of the routing hole in the bulkhead.

Installation

1. Feed accelerator cable through routing hole in bulkhead.
2. Connect cable retaining clip to pedal lever.
3. Connect cable and rubber grommet to cable bracket.

NOTE: Accelerator cable connects to lower half of the throttle cam.

4. Connect cable to throttle cam.
5. Tighten cable bracket locknuts.
6. Adjust cable deflection.


ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND RETURN SPRING

Removal

1. Remove accelerator cable from pedal lever by disconnecting cable retaining clip from lever.
2. If equipped, disconnect vehicle speed control cable from pedal extension lever.
3. Remove bracket mounting bolts and remove accelerator pedal and lever, bracket, and return spring assembly.

Pedal Lever Return Spring:





Pivot Pin Retainer:






4. Using a screwdriver, disconnect return spring tension hook from pedal lever.
5. Using a screwdriver, remove E-clip from pivot pin.
6. Remove pivot pin retainers that connect to pivot pin and bracket.
7. Pull pedal, lever, and pivot pin assembly out of bracket and return spring.
8. Remove return spring.

Installation

1. Place return spring into its mounting place.
2. Install pedal, lever, and pivot pin assembly by piloting pivot pin through bracket and return spring.
3. Install pivot pin retainers onto pivot pin and bracket.
4. Install a new E-clip onto pivot pin.
5. Position return spring tension hook onto pedal lever.
6. Position pedal and return spring bracket and install mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 69 - 95 in lb (8 - 11 Nm).
7. If equipped, connect vehicle speed control cable to bracket.
8. Connect accelerator cable to pedal lever by connecting retaining clip to pedal lever.

SPEED CONTROL PEDAL EXTENSION LEVER

Removal
1. Remove accelerator pedal and return spring.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove E-clip from pedal extension lever pivot point pin.
3. Remove outside retainer from pivot pin on pedal extension lever.
4. Remove pedal extension lever and pivot pin inside retainer.

Installation
1. Install inside retainer on pivot pin.
2. Install pivot pin through its mounting holes in bracket.
3. Install outside retainer on pivot pin.
4. Install E-clip onto pivot pin.
5. Install accelerator pedal and return spring.
