EGR Valve: Service and Repair

WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.

1. Disconnect the EGR vacuum hose.
2. Disconnect the EGR supply tube at the EGR valve
3. Remove EGR mounting bolts and remove the EGR valve. Discard the gasket.
4. Clean all mating surfaces being careful not to get foreign material in the intake manifold.

NOTE: Lightly oil all bolts and threads prior to installation.

5. Install the EGR supply tube to the EGR valve and finger tighten the nut.
6. Install the EGR valve and the new gasket to the intake manifold. Torque the mounting bolts to 13-19 lb. ft. (18-26 N-m).
7. Torque the EGR supply tube nut to 25-35 lb. ft. (34-47 N-m).
8. Install the EGR vacuum hose.
9. START the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
