Drive Belt: Service and Repair
Serpentine Belt Routing:
NOTE: Belt tension for the V-ribbed belt is maintained by an automatic tensioner and does not require adjustment.
NOTE: Movement of the automatic tensioner pulley is not a sign of a malfunctioning tensioner This movement is required to maintain constant belt tension with cyclical engine and accessory loads.
NOTE: Mark the direction of rotation on the drive belt with a crayon or marking pen to ensure correct installation if the belt is to be reused. Failure to do so may result in belt noise.
Removal
1. Insert a 1/2-inch ratchet in square hole in tensioner (tensioner has a 1/2-inch square hole cast into the tensioner arm directly behind the pulley), ROTATE tensioner CLOCKWISE and remove belt from pulleys.
WARNING: Use caution when removing or installing belts to ensure that tool does not slip.
Installation
1. Installation belt over all pulleys except tensioner pulley.
NOTE: Belt routing decal is located on the RH fender apron next to the coolant recovery bottle.
2. ROTATE tensioner as described under Removal and install belt over tensioner pulley. Ensure that all V-grooves make proper contact with pulleys.
