A9 Actuator (Mechanical) Check
- Turn ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove actuator as outlined.
- Reconnect actuator connector to VAPS harness connector.






- Attach DVOM as shown to diagnostic connector (near brake booster).
- Turn ignition switch to ON.
- The module will go through a diagnostic check, consisting initially of the 90 second efforts change sequence.





- If the actuator is mechanically operable, the actuator valve will move between its two limits of travel (approximately 3mm).
This movement can be detected by watching the valve spring expand and relax between the travel limits.
Does spring move?
Yes
REPLACE steering gear assembly. Service and Repair
Go to A2. A1 - A3
No
REPLACE actuator. Service and Repair
Go to A2. A1 - A3
