ISSUE:
The anti-lock brake light may stay on. This occurs because water leaks through the connector into the ABS Electronic Control Unit and corrodes it. The anti-lock feature could stop functioning but the brake system would perform conventionally.
ACTION:
Inspect the connector and ECU for moisture or corrosion and, if necessary, replace them. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Locate the ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) at the left hand front side of the radiator support. Refer to the 1992 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Section 06-09, for graphic description.
3. Disconnect the 55-pin connector from the ECU.
4. Examine the connector and ECU for moisture or corrosion.
5. If moisture or corrosion exists, replace the ECU (F1VY-2C219-A) and Wire Assembly (F2AZ-14290-D or F2AZ-14290-E). Refer to the 1992 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual, Sections 06-09 and 18-01, for service details.
