EGR Valve: Service and Repair

WARNING: EGR components transport hot exhaust gases. Contact with hot EGR components may cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves or allow the vehicle sufficient time to cool.


Component Location:






1. Remove the EGR vacuum hose and electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the EGR tube assembly from the EGR valve.
3. Remove the EGR valve mounting bolts and EGR valve.
4. Clean mating surfaces.
5. Install the EGR valve to the EGR spacer with a new gasket. Torque the EGR valve mounting bolts to 12-18 ft lb (16-24 Nm).
6. Install the EGR valve vacuum hose and electrical connector.
7. Connect the EGR tube assembly to the EGR valve. Torque the nut to 25-35 ft lb (34-47 Nm).
8. START the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
