System Description
The charging system is a negative ground system consisting of an Alternator/Regulator, Battery and a Charge Warning Indicator Lamp.
The Alternator produces alternating current (AC) which is changed to direct current (DC) by the rectifier diodes for distribution to the vehicle electrical system to charge the Battery and operate the electrical accessories while the engine is running. The Regulator controls the charging voltage to approximately 14 volts.
The Charge Warning Indicator Lamp illuminates when the Ignition Switch is in the RUN position and there is no voltage present at terminal "S" of the Regulator. When the voltage at terminal "S" rises above a preset value, the Regulator switching circuits stop the flow of current to terminal "I" of the Regulator and the lamp turns off.
