NOTE: Correct results of the Quick Tests are dependent on the proper operation of related non-EEC components. It may be necessary to disconnect or disassemble harness connector assemblies to perform some of the inspections. Pin locations should be noted prior to disassembly.1. Perform the following safety precautions to begin and perform vehicle tests:
- Turn the ignition switch "Off"
- APPLY parking brake
- Place gear select lever into PARK (A/T) or NEUTRAL (M/T)
- Block drive wheels
- Turn OFF all electrical loads (radio, lights, A/C-heater blower fans, etc).
2. Inspect the following for damage, leaks, cracks, blockage and proper routing:
- Engine vacuum hoses
- Air induction system
3. Inspect the following for proper connections, bent or broken pins, corrosion, loose wires and proper routing:
- EEC system wiring harness
- Electronic Control Assembly (ECA), sensors, and actuators
4. Check:
- Engine coolant for proper level
- Transmission fluid level and quality
5. Make all necessary repairs prior to continuing with test preparation.
NOTE: If CHECK ENGINE (CEL) light flashes continuously prior to equipment hookup, see STI - Self Test Input Test.
6. Connect:
- Super Star II tester or equivalent to the diagnostic connector
- Color coded adapter cable to the Super Star II tester
- Connect the adapter cable leads to the diagnostic connector
- Ground the adapter cable
- Slide adapter switch to MECS
NOTE: Switch position is very important. Failure to have the switch in the proper position will result in improper readings.
7. See Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self Test.
