Removal and Installation

1. Remove battery assembly.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Separate tie rod ends from steering knuckle as follows:
a. Remove tie rod end cotter pin and attaching nut.
b. Using tool No. T85M-3395-A or equivalent separate tie rod end from steering knuckle.
c. Mark tie rod end, jamb nut and tie rod for installation alignment.
d. Loosen tie rod end jamb nut, then remove tie rod end.
4. Remove righthand lower inner fender dust shield.
5. Lower vehicle. Do not allow anything but rear wheels to touch ground.
6. Using suitable cutters, cut plastic wire tie clamping steering column dust boot to steering gear.
7. Pull dust boot back, then rotate steering column shaft until clamp bolt is accessible, then lock steering column.
8. Mark steering column pinion shaft and intermediate shaft lower universal joint for installation alignment.
9. Remove intermediate shaft lower universal joint attaching clamp bolt.
10. Disconnect power steering gear return line.
11. Remove power steering gear pressure hose banjo bolt, then position hose aside. Do not reuse copper washers from fitting.
12. Remove steering gear attaching bolts.
13. Carefully lower steering gear, then remove steering gear through righthand fenderwell.
14. Reverse procedure to install. Torque all attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
