Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation
Evaporative Emissions Canister:
PURPOSE
As part of the Evaporative Emission Control System, the canister stores fuel vapors until they are purged into the engine air induction system.
LOCATION
Engine compartment.
OPERATION
Canister is filled with activated charcoal granules. These are used as a vapor trap because of great absorption ability, holding up to one-third of their weight in fuel vapors. During purging, fresh air enters the canister through a vent and carries fuel vapors to the engine air induction system.
