Vehicle Preparation and Testing
NOTE: Be careful not to move anything while inspecting the vehicle. By doing so you could affect a possible fault and be unable to locate the original problem.1. Perform the following safety precautions to start and run vehicle tests.
a. APPLY parking brake.
b. Place gear select lever into PARK (A/T) position NEUTRAL (M/T).
c. Block drive wheels.
2. Inspect the Air Induction system.
3. Check all engine vacuum hoses for damage, leaks, cracks, blockage, proper routing, etc.
4. Check EEC system wiring harness for proper connections, bent or broken pins, corrosion, loose wires, proper routing, etc.
5. Check the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA), sensors, and actuators for physical damage.
6. Check the engine coolant for proper level.
7. Check the transmission fluid level and quality.
8. Test vehicle battery for low voltage and current.
9. Make all necessary repairs prior to continuing with test preparation.
10. Turn off all electrical loads (radio, lights, A/C-heater blower fans, etc.).
11. START engine and run until at operating temperature.
12. Turn OFF engine and proceed with equipment set-up.
CAUTION: The vehicle ignition switch must be turned OFF before disconnecting the EEC harness cable from the EEC processor.
13. Perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self Test and check for service codes. These codes must be recorded before disconnecting the EEC harness, otherwise the codes will be erased.
14. Install monitor. Refer to installation procedure in monitor manuals. Ensure that the connecting cable is safely routed away from moving parts and ignition components.
Monitor Adapter Harness Hookup:
15. Select proper monitor overlay card for the appropriate engine.

16. If recorder is available, do not install at this time.
17. Refer to Power and Ground Tests.
