Oil Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT & COVERS.
2. Remove oil pan as outlined under OIL PAN.
3. Remove crankshaft timing belt pulley.
4. Remove oil strainer/pickup tube.
5. Remove oil pump bolts and oil pump.

DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove oil pump cover.
2. Remove outer and inner rotors.
3. Remove cotter pin and remove pressure piston, cap and spring.
4. Remove oil seal using seal remover tool No. T78P-3504-N, or equivalent.

INSPECTION

1. Inspect pressure spring for weakness or breakage.
2. Pressure spring free length should be 1.791 inch.
3. Inner to outer rotor clearance should not exceed .0079 inch, Fig. 8.
4. Outer rotor to pump body clearance should not exceed .0087 inch, Fig. 9.
5. Rotor to pump body clearance should not exceed .0055 inch, Fig. 10.

ASSEMBLY

1. Install oil seal flush with pump body.
2. Install pressure piston, cap and spring with a new cotter pin.
3. install inner and outer rotors.
4. Install oil pump cover.

INSTALLATION

1. Clean gasket surface.
2. Install oil pump with new gasket.
3. Install oil pump bolts and torque to specification.
4. Install crankshaft timing pulley, oil pan and timing belt and covers as outlined.
