ISSUE: A snapping noise may be heard from the front end area. This usually occurs while the vehicle is moving slowly (1 to 3 mph) in forward or reverse, with the steering wheel fully turned to either side. This noise is caused by the sticking and slipping of the wheel hub.

ACTION: Install a new front wheel bearing assembly on each side of the car. Apply Threadlocker 262 (E2FZ-19554-B) to the wheel bearing outer race before pressing the bearing into the knuckle, Figure 1. Refer to the 1991 Escort/Tracer Shop Manual, Pages 04-01-13 through 04-01-15.
