This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to revise the Service Procedure.

ISSUE:
A pin is used to hold the throttle valve in a fixed position on new or remanufactured service replacement transaxle assemblies. The pin is used during the assembly process to make installation of the control valve easier.

ACTION:
When installing a new or remanufactured 4EAT transaxle, be sure to remove the pin and install a new retaining bolt. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

NOTE:
FAILURE TO REMOVE THE PIN FROM THE THROTTLE CAM WILL HOLD THE TRANSMISSION THROTTLE LEVER IN A FIXED POSITION, RESULTING IN A SHIFT CONCERN.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Install 4EAT transaxle in the vehicle. Refer to the 1991 Escort/Tracer Service Manual for service details.

2. Attach the TV cable to the throttle cam. Tighten the bolts to the cable adjustment. Refer to the 1991 Escort/Tracer Service Manual for service details.

3. Remove the pin from the throttle cam, Figure 1. The pin is located just below where the TV cable enters the transaxle case.

NOTE:
APPLY SEALANT TO THE NEW BOLT BEFORE INSTALLATION TO PREVENT OIL LEAKAGE.
