Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
On 1994 models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system prior to performing service operation as possible airbag deployment may cause personal injury.
1. Loosen reservoir to pump hose clamp and pull hose from reservoir, then plug hose.
2. Remove two reservoir mounting bolts and lift reservoir from its mounting position.
3. Loosen return hose clamp and pull return hose from reservoir, then plug hose.
4. Remove reservoir from vehicle.
5. Disconnect electrical connector from power steering pressure switch.
6. Loosen high-pressure line flare nut and disconnect line from pump, then plug line.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then remove five front undercover bolts and remove undercover.
8. Remove belt tensioner adjustment bolt, then accessory drive belt from pulley.
9. Lower vehicle, then remove three pump mounting bracket bolts and pump and bracket.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Torque pump mounting bolts to 27-38 ft. lbs. and high-pressure line flare nut to 12-17 ft. lbs.
