ESCORT/TRACER IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER SLEEVE INSTALLATION

1. Remove the key from the ignition.

2. Remove the four retaining screws from the steering column lower cover. Remove the cover.

3. Inspect the embossed area of ignition lock cylinder for presence of TWO roll pins. Both pins should be flush with the cylinder surface. See Attachment IV. (If either roll pin is not flush with the cylinder surface, is loose or missing, go to "Ignition Lock Set Replacement").

4. Slide plastic ignition sleeve over embossed area of ignition lock cylinder until tabs engage. (If sleeve does not slide easily over the cylinder, the roll pins protrude from the cylinder surface too far and could be loose. If this occurs, go to "Ignition Lock Set Replacement").

5. Secure plastic ignition sleeve by snapping all four tabs over the embossed area of the ignition lock cylinder. Be sure that no tabs are resting on the ribbed surface of the cylinder; verify that all tabs lock. (If sleeve cracks, install new sleeve).

6. Reinstall the lower steering column cover. Be sure that the steering column shroud does not rub against the steering column.

7. Check for proper operation of ignition switch; inspect operation of illuminated entry light; extract key to verify roll pins are in place. Release vehicle.
