Distributor: Service and Repair


Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the coil wire from the distributor.

Distributor Unit:





3. Remove the distributor cap attaching screws.
4. Pull the distributor cap off and swing aside.

Electrical Connector:





5. Disconnect the distributor electrical connector.
6. If the distributor unit is not being replaced, write a reference mark across the distributor base flange and the cylinder head to allow installation without changing the timing.

7. Remove the distributor unit.

Distributor Unit:





8. If necessary, remove the O-ring from the distributor unit.

Installation

Distributor Unit:





1. If necessary, install a new O-ring on the distributor unit.

NOTE: When installing the distributor unit, make sure that the offset drive tangs engage with the camshaft slots.


2. Position the distributor unit and install the mounting bolts.
If a replacement unit is being installed, loosely tighten the mounting bolts.
If the distributor unit was not replaced, align the reference marks made during removal and tighten the mounting bolts to specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS.
3. Install the distributor electrical connector.
4. Install the distributor cap and screws.
5. Install the coil wire.
6. Install the negative battery cable.
7. Check for proper operation.

NOTE: If a new distributor unit has been installed, the ignition timing should be checked and adjusted. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
