Removal and Installation

Fuel Tank:

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

CAUTION: Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut down. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun. A valve is provided on the throttle body for this purpose. Remove the air cleaner and relieve system pressure by using Rotunda pressure gauge tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent and drain the system through the drain tube.

REMOVAL

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Completely drain the fuel tank by siphoning or pumping out through the fuel filler hose.
4. Remove the rear seat cushion.

Ground Strap:

5. Remove the ground strap retaining screw and the three remaining fuel pump assembly cover screws.
6. Remove the fuel pump assembly cover.

7. Remove the clips from the fuel hoses.
8. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel pump assembly.
9. Raise the vehicle.

10. Loosen the filler neck clamp and disconnect the filler neck hose from the filler neck.
11. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the filler neck overflow hose from the overflow tube.
12. Disconnect the vapor hoses from the vapor tubes.
13. Remove the fuel tank straps.
14. Remove the three fuel tank heat shield attaching bolts from the fuel tank.
15. Remove the fuel tank.

INSTALLATION:

1. Place the fuel tank onto the fuel tank heat shield and install the heat shield attaching bolts into the fuel tank.
2. Install the fuel tank straps.
3. Connect the vapor hoses to the vapor tubes.
4. Connect the filler neck hose to the filler neck and install the attaching clamp.
5. Connect the filler neck overflow hose to the overflow tube and install the attaching clamp.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Connect the hoses to the fuel pump assembly.
8. Install the clips onto the fuel hoses.
9. Position the fuel pump assembly cover and ground strap and install the retaining screws.
10. Connect the fuel pump assembly electrical connector.
11. Install the rear seat cushion.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
