Safety Recall 92S54 - Certain 1991 and 1992 Escort and 1991 Tracer Cars Equipped With 1.8L Engines For Inspection and, If Necessary, Replacement of the Fuel Pump

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 1991 and 1992 Escort and 1991 Tracer cars equipped with 1.8L engines. Specific vehicle information, see illustration.

REASONS FOR RECALL

On some of these cars, a solder joint between the fuel pump mounting plate and the fuel return tube may develop a crack. Should this occur, the operator may notice a fuel odor or a fuel leak when the fuel tank is full or nearly full. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.

To correct this condition, the fuel pump and bracket assembly is to be inspected and, if necessary, replaced.
