Certain 1991 Escort GT and Tracer LTS cars equipped with 1.8L engines and 5-speed manual transmissions. Specific vehicle information (see illustration)

REASONS FOR THIS PROGRAM
A ball seal in the speedometer cable speed sensor may not have been installed at assembly. A sensor with a missing seal may result in transmission fluid being pumped up the speedometer cable to the speedometer head and dripping into the driver's footwell area.

SERVICE ACTION
Cars returned for service will be inspected to determine if the seal was omitted from the speed sensor and, if necessary, the sensor, speedometer cable and/or speedometer head will be replaced.
