^ HEATER/DEFROSTER DOOR - ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
FORD: 1991 ESCORT
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 TRACER
ISSUE: Warm air may flow into the floor area when the temperature control lever is moved away from the full cold position. This occurs because the heater/defroster door is not properly adjusted.
ACTION: Adjust the heater/defroster door by using the following service procedure.
1. Move the air conditioner mode selector lever to the "Panel" position. This rotates the heater/defroster door cam to the full counterclockwise position.
Figure 1:
2. Using a screwdriver, open the link retainer on the A/C damper door crank arm to release the heater/air door link, Figure 1.
3. Pull the threaded portion of the heater/air door link out of the retainer.
4. Press the heater/defroster door clockwise against the heater air flow opening inside the heater case. While maintaining moderate pressure on the door.
a. Place the heater air door link back into the link retainer.
b. Snap the retainer closed to secure the link in position.
NOTE: THREE OR FOUR THREADS ON THE END OF THE HEATER AIR DOOR LINK SHOULD EXTEND BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE LINK RETAINER WHEN THE DOOR IS ADJUSTED PROPERLY.
