With Manual Transmission
On 1994 models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system prior to performing service operation as possible airbag deployment may cause personal injury.1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Marking hinge locations for installation reference, remove hood.
4. Discharge A/C system, then drain cooling system.
5. Remove resonance duct and air cleaner assembly.
6. Remove battery and battery tray.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle cam, then remove cable bracket from intake plenum.
8. Remove upper radiator hose from thermostat housing and radiator.
9. Disconnect radiator thermoswitch electrical connectors, then remove radiator overflow hose from the radiator filler neck.
10. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connectors, then remove radiator mounting brackets.
11. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
a. Alternator and oil pressure switch.
b. Throttle position sensor and idle speed control.
c. Manual lever position switch and fuel injector wiring harness.
d. Back-up lamp switch and water thermoswitch.
e. Oxygen sensor, power steering pump and distributor.
12. Disconnect all engine ground straps, then the ignition coil high tension lead from the distributor.
13. Disconnect fuel pressure and return lines.
14. Disconnect heater core inlet and outlet hoses.
15. Disconnect power brake supply, purge control and speed control vacuum hoses.
16. Raise and support vehicle.
17. Remove righthand upper and lower splash shields.
18. Remove clutch slave cylinder pipe bracket from transaxle leaving hose connected. Position slave cylinder aside, taking care not to damage pipe or hose.
19. Disconnect shift control rod and extension bar from transaxle.
20. Remove battery duct, then disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator.
21. Disconnect transaxle cooling lines from radiator, then remove power steering and A/C accessory drive belt.
22. Remove power steering pump and bracket assembly leaving hoses connected.
23. Position power steering assembly aside and suspend it with wire.
24. Remove A/C hose routing bracket from transaxle crossmember and position A/C hose aside.
25. Remove A/C compressor leaving hoses connected, then position aside and suspend with wire.
26. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
27. Remove exhaust pipe mounting flange and support bracket from exhaust manifold.
28. Disconnect starter motor ``S'' terminal from starter motor solenoid.
29. Remove nut from starter solenoid ``B'' terminal and disconnect wire from terminal.
30. Remove stabilizer bar, then the tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
31. Remove halfshafts from transaxle.
32. Remove front and rear transaxle mount attaching nuts from crossmember.
33. Lower vehicle, then remove radiator, fan and shroud assembly.
34. Install a suitable engine removal sling onto engine lifting brackets.
35. Place an engine hoist into position and support engine.
36. Remove engine vibration dampener and engine mount.
37. Remove transaxle upper mount and support bracket.
38. Remove engine and transaxle as an assembly.
39. Remove engine intake plenum support bracket.
40. Remove starter motor from transaxle housing, then the transaxle front mount.
41. Remove oil pan to transaxle bolts and transaxle to engine attaching bolts from the engine block.
42. Separate transaxle from engine, then remove clutch assembly from engine.
43. Reverse procedure to install.
