With Automatic Transmission
On 1994 models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system prior to performing service operation as possible airbag deployment may cause personal injury.1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Marking hinge locations for installation reference, remove hood.
4. Discharge A/C system, then drain cooling system.
5. Remove air duct connecting throttle body to resonance chamber.
6. Disconnect power brake vacuum supply hose from power brake, then any necessary vehicle speed control vacuum hoses from intake plenum.
7. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
a. Power steering pump.
b. Water thermoswitch.
c. Temperature sending unit.
d. Oil pressure switch.
e. Fuel injector wiring harness.
f. Oxygen sensor.
g. Throttle position sensor.
h. Distributor.
8. Disconnect all engine ground straps, then the ignition coil high-tension lead from the distributor.
9. Disconnect accelerator and kickdown cable bracket from throttle cam.
10. Remove accelerator and kickdown cable bracket from intake plenum and set assembly aside.
11. Disconnect heater core inlet and outlet hoses at bulkhead.
12. Remove necessary fuel line clips, then disconnect fuel pressure and return lines from the fuel rail.
13. Remove upper radiator hose, then disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.
14. Disconnect radiator thermoswitch electrical connector, then remove starter motor.
15. Raise and support vehicle.
16. Remove righthand upper, righthand lower and lefthand lower splash shields.
17. Remove lower radiator hose, then disconnect two transaxle cooling lines from the radiator and plug lines.
18. Remove A/C line mounting bracket from radiator and position aside.
19. Remove halfshaft bearing support, then the inspection plate from oil pan.
20. Place a wrench on the crankshaft pulley, then rotate crankshaft and remove the torque converter nuts.
21. Remove power steering and A/C accessory drive belt.
22. Remove timing belt as described under TIMING BELT & COVER.
23. Remove crankshaft pulley mounting bolts from crankshaft pulley guide plate.
24. Remove crankshaft pulley, crankshaft pulley guide plate ann timing belt outer and inner guide plates.
25. Remove exhaust flex-pipe and mounting assembly from exhaust manifold.
26. Remove A/C compressor, then remove power steering pump and bracket assembly leaving hoses connected. Suspend pump with wire and position out of the way.
27. Remove all accessible transaxle to engine bolts from engine block.
28. Lower vehicle, then remove radiator mounting brackets and resonance duct.
29. Remove radiator, fan and shroud assembly from vehicle.
30. Remove vacuum chamber canister, then pressure regulator and bracket assembly.
31. Remove shutter valve actuator and bracket assembly, position aside.
32. Remove water pump and alternator accessory drive belt, then remove alternator.
33. Install a suitable engine removal sling onto engine lifting brackets, then place an engine hoist into position and support engine.
34. Remove oil pan to transaxle attaching bolts and remaining transaxle to engine bolts from engine block.
35. Remove engine vibration dampener, then the front engine mount.
36. Carefully separate engine from transaxle, then remove engine from the vehicle.
37. Reverse procedure to install.
