Intake Manifold: Description and Operation

Variable Inertia Charging System:

The intake plenum receives air from the throttle body and directs it into each of the four intake manifold ports. The intake plenum also contains a series of four shutter vales that are controlled by a shutter valve actuator mounted externally on the intake plenum. Opening or closing the shutter valves can alter the length of the intake air path. This can help improve the resonance induced inertia charging effect which will yield greater torque and a wider torque band under certain engine operating conditions. The shutter valve actuator is supplied with vacuum from a vacuum chamber mounted next to it.
