LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 TRACER
ISSUE: The roof sheet metal may vibrate if the doors are slammed hard while the windows and liftgate are closed. This occurs because of air pressurization within the passenger compartment.
ACTION: Install two (2) pieces of 1/2" OD rubber hose between the first and second roof reinforcements. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Remove the headliner from the car. Refer to the 1991 Escort/Tracer Shop Manual, Section 01-05, for removal procedure.
2. Cut two (2) 9" (228.6 mm) lengths of 1/2" (12.7 mm) rubber hose from bulk stock, (N809610-S).

3. Insert one piece of hose in the center of the car between the first roof reinforcement and the roof, Figure 1.
4. Insert the second piece of hose in the center of the car between the second roof reinforcement and the roof, Figure 1.
5. Inspect the roof to make sure the roof is flat and there are no waves resulting from the hose installations.
6. Re-install the headliner in the car.
