HANDLE - DOOR INTERIOR - INOPERATIVE


FORD: 1991 ESCORT

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 TRACER


ISSUE: The interior door handle may become inoperative. This occurs because the nylon clip that retains the door latch rod to the interior door handle may become brittle under dry/hot conditions and break.

ACTION: Install a new interior door handle clip made of improved nylon. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Remove the interior door handle by removing the one (1) retaining screw.

2. Disconnect the door latch rod and clip from the handle.

3. Install the new clip (F1CZ-5821954-A) on the interior door handle, Figure 1. Attach the door latch rod to the clip/handle assembly.

4. Install the handle to the door with the retaining screw.
