Mainshaft Bearing/Bushing: Service and Repair
BEARING CUPS
The input cluster shaft and mainshaft are supported at each end by roller bearings. Three cups which support the bearings are located in the transmission case and three cups are located in the clutch housing case. The bearing cups are not pressed into the case, but are slip-fit and may be removed and installed by hand. Shims to preload the bearings are located behind the bearing cups in the transmission case. It is necessary to keep the preload shim with its matching cup during disassembly.
Clutch Housing Funnel:
Service Shim Replacement Chart:
After removal of the mainshaft bearing cup from the clutch housing, the funnel, may be removed from the bearing cup bore. The funnel directs lubricant to a drilled hole in the center of the mainshaft where it lubricates the gears. The bearing cups should be lubricated lightly prior to installation. Whenever the preload bearing shims are replaced, a service shim should be installed in place of the original shim.
