Passive Restraints

The Passive Restraint System operates electrically, restrains the driver and front seat passenger in the vehicle through the use of the shoulder belt, the manual lap belt and knee bolsters.

THE LAP SAFETY BELT IS TO BE MANUALLY BUCKLED BY THE DRIVER/PASSENGER AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE WORN WITH THE SHOULDER BELT. BE SURE THE LAP BELT IS ON YOUR HIPS AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.

After entering the vehicle and closing the door, turn ignition switch to the ON position. A motor will cause the shoulder belt to slide along a drive belt track starting at the front body A-pillar.

The shoulder belt warning indicator in the instrument cluster (symbol) will illuminate for four to eight seconds. In the unlikely event the shoulder belt should stall before it reaches the B-pillar, the indicator will begin to flash after nine seconds and will continue flashing until the shoulder belt is in its locked position in the B-pillar. If the indicator continues flashing, perform the Manual Override procedure before driving the vehicle.

The shoulder belt will automatically adjust itself to allow comfort and freedom of movement by the occupant. It will lock tight only on extremely hard braking, hard cornering or impacts of approximately 3 km/h (5 mph) or more.

When the ignition is in any position and the door is opened, the shoulder belt will move forward to the A-pillar. This will allow ample room for either the driver or passenger to exit the vehicle.

WARNING: USE THE SHOULDER BELT ON THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER ONLY. NEVER WEAR THE SHOULDER BELT UNDER THE ARM. NEVER SWING IT AROUND YOUR NECK OVER THE INSIDE SHOULDER. NEVER USE A SINGLE BELT FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PRECAUTIONS COULD INCREASE THE CHANCE AND/OR SEVERITY OF INJURY IN AN ACCIDENT.

CAUTION: Do not use the belt as an assist handle when entering or exiting the vehicle. The door should not be opened while the vehicle is in motion.

NOTE: If door is ajar the shoulder belt will remain in the forward position at the A-pillar. The door ajar indicator located in the instrument panel will illuminate until the door is fully closed.

WARNING: THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNLESS ALL DOORS ARE FULLY CLOSED AND THE SHOULDER BELTS ARE IN THE LOCKED POSITION ON THE B-PILLAR.

The vehicle passive restraint system is protected with a 20 gauge fuse link (Dk Blue). The fuse link is located on the RH side of the vehicle rear the starter motor relay.

Transport motors at stall can draw 16 to 18 amps.
