Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Filter Location:

WARNING: Because of the combustion characteristics of gasoline, always use extreme caution, to prevent fire and/or personal injury, when removing and installing any fuel system component.

REMOVAL:

1. With the engine OFF, relieve the fuel system pressure using Fuel Pressure Gauge T80L-9974-B or equivalent.

NOTE: These vehicles are not equipped with a pressure relief valve. The fuel filter connection must be covered with a cloth to prevent fuel from spraying during disassembly.

2. Remove the push connect fittings from both ends of the fuel filter.
3. Install new retainer clips on each connect fitting.

NOTE: The flow arrow direction should be positioned in the bracket to ensure proper fuel flow through the replacement filter.

4. Remove the filter from the bracket by loosening the filter retaining clamp enough to allow the filter to be removed.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install the new filter in the bracket, noting the proper direction of the flow arrow, as noted above, and tighten the clamp to 1.7-2.8 Nm (15.0-25.0 lb.in).
2. Install the push connect fittings at both ends of the filter.
3. START the engine and check for leaks.
