Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair

Strut, Spring & Upper Mount Components:





1. Raise and support vehicle. Loosen upper strut mount to body nuts located in luggage compartment.
2. Remove wheel assembly.
3. Place a suitable jack under control arms.
4. Remove brake hose bracket to strut bolt and position brake hose bracket aside.
5. Remove jounce bumper bracket.
6. Remove two upper mount to body nuts, then the strut.
7. Place strut, spring and upper mount assembly into a suitable spring compressor tool. Do not remove the spring from the strut without first compressing the spring.
8. With spring compressed, remove strut shaft to mount nuts. Remove spring, strut and mount, Fig. 4, from spring compressor tool.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque shaft nut to 35-50 ft. lbs., torque jounce bumper bracket to strut mount bolts to 70-96 ft. lbs., torque top mount to body nuts to 25-30 ft. lbs.
