Air Management Control Solenoid (California Only) Operation
Typical Solenoid Valve Assembly:
This normally CLOSED solenoid valve regulates vacuum being applied to the bypass valve, and is controlled by the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA).
The valve consists of two vacuum port nipples, and an atmospheric vent, which may or may not use a control bleed.
When the valve is DE-ENERGIZED, the passage between the two vacuum port nipples is blocked, venting vacuum from the inlet port to atmosphere. When the ECA grounds the solenoid circuit, source vacuum at the inlet port nipple is allowed to pass through and out the outlet port nipple.
The control bleed is used to prevent dirt and contaminates from entering the solenoid valve assembly, while venting vacuum to the atmosphere.
