Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain coolant and oil from engine.
4. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove roll restrictor.
5. On all models, remove starter from engine.
6. Disconnect exhaust pipe from oil pan.
7. Remove engine coolant tube located at the lower radiator hose, at the water pump and from tabs on oil pan.
8. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan, Fig. 13, from engine.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Remove all traces of RTV sealant from engine block and oil pan.
b. Clean block rails, front cover, rear cover retainer and oil pan thoroughly with DuPont(R) Freon (TF) or equivalent solvent.
c. Remove and clean oil pump pick-up tube and screen assembly.
d. Apply RTV (part No. E8AZ-19652-A) or equivalent in oil pan groove. Completely fill the oil pan groove with sealer. Sealer Bead should be 3/16 inch wide and 1/8 inch rise above oil pan surface in all areas except half-rounds. The half-rounds should have 3/16 wide bead and 3/16 inch rise above oil pan surface. Applying RTV in excess of the specified amount will not improve sealing of oil pan.
e. RTV sealant needs to cure completely before coming in contact with engine oil, about one hour at 65-75°F ambient temperature.
