Recall - A/T Parking Pawl Actuating Rod Replacement: Overview
91ford16
RECALL NUMBER
91S29
Date July, 1991
TO: All Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers
SUBJECT: Safety Recall 91S29 - Certain 1991 Cars With Automatic Overdrive Transmissions (AOD)
For Inspection and, If Necessary, Replacement of the Parking Pawl
Actuating Rod Assembly
REASONS FOR RECALL
On some of these transmissions, the park pawl actuating rod cam may have been
incorrectly heat treated. Actuating rod assemblies not properly heat treated may result in high
disengagement efforts from "PARK" and/or no park engagement when the shift lever is
placed in the "PARK" position. If the driver is not aware that the park mechanism of the
transmission has not properly engaged and leaves the car unattended without setting the parking brake,
the car would be free to roll as if in neutral - creating the possibility of a vehicle crash or
personal injury.
To correct this condition, dealers are requested to inspect all the involved cars and to replace the parking pawl actuating rod assembly on transmissions having build dates of October 23, 1990 (K23) and October 24, 1990 (K24).
