Shifter A/T: Service and Repair
REMOVALTransmission Shifter/Linkage Assembly:
1. Place the shift lever in OVERDRIVE. Remove the console top panel.
2. Remove the interlock cable retaining screw and disconnect the cable from the shifter interlock cam.
3. Disconnect the indicator lamp wire.
4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
5. Remove the shift cable retaining nut from the transmission bracket. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever ball stud.
6. Lower the vehicle. Remove the shifter assembly retaining bolts and remove the shifter assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the shifter assembly to the floorpan with the retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 5.4-8.1 Nm (4-6 ft lb).
2. Connect the interlock cable. Tighten the retaining screw to 2.8-4.0 Nm (2-3 ft lb). Connect the indicator lamp wire.
3. Install the console top panel.
4. Place the shift lever in OVERDRIVE and apply a three pound rearward force to the lever.
5. Raise the vehicle.
6. Connect the shift cable to the shift lever and transmission bracket. Tighten the nut at the bracket to 13-25 Nm (10-18 ft lb).
7. Make sure the transmission lever is in OVERDRIVE and connect the shift cable. Tighten the retaining nut to 13-25 Nm (10-18 ft lb).
8. Lower the vehicle and check the shifter for proper operation.
