Seat Belt: Description and Operation
SEAT BELT BUCKLEThe inboard belt buckle is secured to the slide bar, allowing the buckle to move with the seat.
Attaching the tongue and buckle secures the outboard occupants with both lower and upper restraints. This tongue and belt attachment can be accomplished by a single, continuous movement.
LAP SAFETY BELTS
Lap safety belts are provided for the center rear seating position with the belts secured to the floorpan.
Shoulder Harness Retractor:
SEAT BELT RETRACTOR
The lap/shoulder safety belt is attached to a retractor which is located in the quarter panel for the front seat, and on the rear package tray for the rear seat. This retractor is designed to let the webbing freely move in or out at all times, except during hard braking, cornering, or impacts of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.
The webbing then passes through a guide above and behind the occupant's shoulder which directs the webbing at the proper downward angle over the occupant's shoulder and chest and attaches to the lap belt buckle.
On these vehicles the buckle is routed along the side of the seat and is attached to the slide bar. The slide bar is anchored to the seat track which is anchored to the floorpan.
