Fluid Pump: Service and Repair
DISASSEMBLEExploded View Of Oil Pump:
NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View Of Oil Pump image when disassembling oil pump.
1. Inspect sliding surfaces of oil pump cover and oil pump body for damage or wear.
2. Inspect seal ring for damage.
3. Using a suitable feeler gauge, measure the following clearances:
a. Seal pin to oil pump cover. Maximum clearance is 0.002 inch.
b. Rotor to oil pump cover. Maximum clearance is 0.0012 inch.
c. Cam ring to oil pump cover. Maximum clearance is 0.003 inch.
d. Vane to oil pump cover. Maximum clearance is 0.003 inch.
e. Vane to rotor groove. Maximum clearance is 0.0026 inch.
4. Check wear for each of the following:
a. Using a vernier caliper, check oil pump body sleeve 0.D. wear limit. Standard limit is 1.102 inch.
b. Using a dial indicator, check rotor bushing I.D. wear limit. Maximum is 1.104 inch.
c. Using a micrometer, check guide ring 0.D. wear limit. Minimum is 0.472 inch.
d. Using a micrometer, check valve 0.D. wear limit. Minimum is 0.472 inch.
e. Using a micrometer, check seal pin 0.D. wear limit. Minimum is 0.232 inch.
ASSEMBLE
1. Install spool valve and spring into oil pump body. Ensure spool valve moves smoothly before tightening plug. Torque plug to 17-26 ft lbs.
2. Install cam ring, pivot roller, and rotor onto oil pump body.
3. Install vanes into rotor.
4. Install guides spring and guide ring while expanding vanes toward cam ring.
5. Install pump flange on rotor, then the spring between cam ring and oil pump body.
6. Install seal pin and spring with seal pin facing toward oil pump body.
NOTE: Ensure round pins are installed first.
7. Install oil pump cover and 0-rings to oil pump body. Torque bolts in sequence to 70-97 in lbs.
8. Install seal rings and oil pump shaft. Ensure shaft turns smoothly.
9. Lubricate bearing race, then install oil pump cover.
