^ NOISE-"POP" FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT


LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 CAPRI


ISSUE: A loud "Pop" from the engine compartment may be caused by the engine air cleaner contacting the automatic transmission cover. Engine operation is not affected.

ACTION: Install washers under the mounting points of the air cleaner assembly to provide more clearance. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the 1991 Capri Shop Manual, Page 24-41-2, for removal procedure.

2. Install a 3 mm thick washer (E630028-S71) under each of the three (3) mounting points of the air cleaner assembly.


3. Replace the air cleaner assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 4.4-8 lb.ft. (6-11 N-m).
