SPEEDOMETER - INOPERATIVE OR INACCURATE - CABLE DAMAGED - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 7/23/90


LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1991 CAPRI


ISSUE:
An inoperative or inaccurate speedometer may be caused by a speedometer cable that is kinked or broken.

ACTION:
Inspect the speedometer cable for kinks or breakage. Replace the cable if it is damaged. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Check speedometer operation for signs of improper operation.

2. Inspect speedometer cable for kinks or breakage.


3. Replace the speedometer cable if there are any signs of damage. Refer to page 33-10-3 of the 1991 Capri Shop Manual for service details.

NOTE:
TORQUE SPEEDOMETER CABLE CONNECTION AT TRANSAXLE TO 3-5 LBS.FT. (4-7 N-m).





4. Reroute speedometer cable. Refer to Figure 1.

5. Secure the speedometer cable to the brake master cylinder with a tie strap. Refer to Figure 1.
