^ HEATER - WATER LEAK THROUGH AIR INTAKE DUCT ON PASSENGER SIDE

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 CAPRI

ISSUE:
Water may leak through the heater air intake duct on the passenger side. When the blower motor is in the high position, water may enter the vehicle through the plenum chamber or behind the instrument cluster and get the passenger side wet. This occurs because an unused windshield wiper pivot hole on the right hand side of the vehicle was not properly sealed.

ACTION:
Seat the open windshield wiper pivot hole with polyurethane tape. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove both windshield wipers. Refer to the 1991 Capri Service Manual, Section 35-60, for the removal procedure.

2. Remove the lower windscreen moulding. Refer to the 1991 Capri Service Manual, Section 43-02, for removal details.

3. Inspect for clear polyurethane tape covering the unused windscreen wiper pivot hole, Figure 1.

4. If the polyurethane tape is missing, proceed as follows:

a. Clean and dry the area.

b. Install new polyurethane tape (FOJY-76021-A46A), Figure 1.

5. Remove the windshield retaining block closest to the pivot hole, Figure 1.

6. Seal this area with RTV silicone sealer (D6AZ-19562-BA), Figure 1.

7. Replace the screw and windshield retaining block.

8. Reinstall the lower windscreen moulding.
