SPEED CONTROL - DELAYED ENGAGEMENT - SERVICE TIPS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 CAPRI

ISSUE: The speed control system on the 1991 Capri has a normal operating delay of about 1.5 seconds. The operating delay is to design intent. This allows the system to undergo a self check function before accepting new command signals. The result of this is that when the speed control system is initially turned on by the ON switch or deactivated via the brake/clutch switch, the system will not respond to other commands, e.g. "SET", "ACCEL", or "RESUME" until the time has elapsed.
ACTION: In the event of a customer concern of delayed speed control operation, first see if the concern is the normal operating delay designed into the speed control system. DO NOT perform diagnostic procedures before the normal speed control operating delay has been checked out.
