^ NOISE - "RATTLE" OR VIBRATION FROM OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 CAPRI

ISSUE: The outside rear view mirrors may rattle or vibrate. This occurs because the upper part of the rear location "nibs" do not allow a flush fit.

ACTION: Modify the location "nibs" to permit a better fit. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Inspect the mirror assembly by lightly pulling on the mirror head to see if it wobbles.

Figure 1:

2. If the mirror head wobbles, pull the mirror head forward to expose the location "nibs", Figure 1.

3. File the upper part of the rear location nib until the wobble is no longer apparent.

CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE COMPLETE "NIB". BE SURE THAT ONLY THE UPPER PART OF THE "NIB" IS FILED. TAKE CARE TO PROTECT THE MIRROR SURFACE FROM SCRATCHES.
