Water Leaks - Division BAR "A" Pillar Area
WATER LEAKS - DIVISION BAR "A" PILLAR AREA (HARD TOP AND SOFT TOP)NOTE:
Parts required are listed in Parts Section.
1. Remove and discard the windshield header weatherstrip.
2. Remove and discard the exterior "A" pillar windshield mouldings. Refer to Figure 3.
3. Fit the new "A" pillar mouldings. Refer to Figure 4.
NOTE:
If the upper windshield moulding is removed for any reason, apply RTV silicon on the screw retainers prior to refitting the moulding.
1. Obtain template from kit for measuring the door window glass gaps and margins as shown in Figure 5.
2. Fixed vent window alignment. Refer to Figure 5. From inside the vehicle, measure with 0.71 in. (18 mm) template the gap of the fixed vent to the "A" pillar. Measured at position "D" approximately 2.36 in. (60 mm) or length of template down from the top of fixed vent window as shown. The lateral gap should be 0.71 in. (18 mm).
If the required adjustment is 4 mm or less proceed as follows:
^ Loosen the adjuster locknut at the lower end of the front window channel. Refer to Figure 6, view B.
^ Turn the adjuster screw to achieve the 0.71 (18 mm) (clockwise for bar outboard, counterclockwise for bar inboard) setting.
^ Tighten the adjuster locknut.
^ Recheck fixed vent window gap.
^ Should the required adjustment be 5 mm or more (inboard or outboard), then manipulation of the front channel is required. This is carried out as follows:
^ Lower door glass and close door.
^ Take hold of the upper portion of the front channel.
^ Without touching the door sheetmetal, firmly tug the channel outwards or push inwards and recheck gap. Refer to Figure 7.
^ Raise the sliding window.
3. Windshield header weatherstrip fitment
^ With the windshield header weatherstrip removed, peel away any double sided tape from the horizontal and vertical face of the windshield moulding. Clean surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and wipe with clean cloth.
^ Apply the new tape to the front vertical face of the windshield upper moulding. Refer to Figure 8 view "A". Press tape firmly to ensure full contact. Do not remove pull tape. Tape backing removal is several steps later as shown in Figure 31.
^ Apply a strip of 3M brand "969" tape (Dealer supply) along the length of the horizontal face of the windshield upper moulding, do not peel the backing paper from the tape.
^ Clean replacement weatherstrip lower surface.
^ Install the weatherstrip to the header beginning with the corners and work toward the middle (tap carefully with a rubber mallet to seat weatherstrip retainer). Refer to Figure 8 view "B". Refit the weatherstrip retaining screws. Refer to Figure 13.
