General Information
CONCERNThis service information is provided to diagnose and correct water leaks on the Lincoln-Mercury 1991 Model Year Capri.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1991 Model Year Capri
BUILD PERIOD
From Job # 1 (March 1990) to October 25, 1991
If the instructions listed are carried out correctly and the water test as described on page 2 is performed, then a vehicle with the following should result:
No drips of water onto the interior trim.
A maximum of three streamers per side of vehicle as depicted in Figure 1, i.e., one on quarter glass and two on sliding glass (front and rear of sliding glass). This water exits from the vehicle via the drain holes at the base of the door. These streamers are considered acceptable provided the interior trim does not become wet.
NOTE:
On the hardtop vehicles, first water test should be done with the hardtop in place and correction to hardtop completed prior to soft top corrections.
Prior to any water leak rectification, a water test must be carried out to verify and correctly identify the concern.
In order to maintain acceptable and repeatable water testing at all Dealer locations, the following water test procedure should be adopted.
NOTE:
Parts required are listed in parts section.
Water test unit - setting and operation:
1. Connect hose to water supply.
2. Turn water supply on.
3. Adjust pressure regulator to achieve a distance of 11'6": +/- 1'6", (3.5 +/- 0.5 m) between the rose and point where water spray contacts the ground when sprayed from a height of 5'0", (1.5 m). Refer to Figure 2.
NOTE:
Ensure spray distance is not affected by cross winds if setting regulator outside.
4. Position rose spray at a distance of 3" 4", (1 metre) from area to be tested on vehicle.
5. Adjust height and angle of rose as required to suit area of vehicle to be tested.
