Convertible Top Rear Window Protection
The rear window may be scratched when lowering the convertible top for stowage. This happens when the rear window passes the rear edge of the rear seat back latch.Install three (3) protectors on the rear edge of the latch to prevent window scratches, Figure 27. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Lower the convertible top to raise the stowage lid and gain access to the seat back latch in the stowage area.
NOTE:
DO NOT LOWER THE TOP COMPLETELY INTO THE STOWAGE AREA.
2. Clean the latch with a suitable solvent to remove any grease or foreign material and then dry.
3. Install three (3) self-adhering protectors on the rear edge of the latch as shown in Figure 28.
NOTE:
THE PROTECTORS COME WITH GLUE APPLIED. STORING THE PROTECTORS IN A WARM AREA WILL AID ADHESION OF THE GLUE.
4. Raise the convertible top.
Lower the top to the stowed position.
Remove the convertible top front retainer as shown in Figure 29. Peel back the convertible top material in the local area around the four holes in the convertible top header. Clean the surface and cover the four holes in the convertible top header with pressure sensitive urethane tape. Adhere the convertible top material back down in position with adhesive ESB-FM-2G35A or equivalent and refit front retainer. Refer to Figure 30. Apply RTV silicon sealant to the gasket face and fit the new retainers.
NOTE:
Some vehicles may have polyurethane tape installed on the four holes and/or retainers with gaskets installed. If so, there is no need to remove the polyurethane tapes. However, the retainers must be removed and sealed with RTV.
