ISSUE:
Tip-in stalls may occur with the engine operating at normal operating temperature. In some cases, TSB article 93-9-6 does not always correct this condition. These stalls may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.
ACTION:
Use the following service procedure to determine if a new PCM with a revised calibration is required.
1. Perform normal diagnosis to be sure that no fault is present. Refer to the 1991 Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis Car/Truck Service Manual for Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) concerns.
2. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) as directed.
3. If any DTC's are found, service as required before proceeding.
4. If no DTC's are found and the condition still exists, continue with the "Diagnostic Routines" in Section 2A of the Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis Car/Truck Service Manual.
5. Install a new PCM with a revised calibration. Refer to the PCM Application Chart for correct parts usage.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
