LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOPAZ
ISSUE: Inoperative air conditioning may be caused by a faulty cooling fan relay. The affected cars are 1990 Tempo/Topaz units built after 3/15/90 that have a fan controller with an engineering part number of F03B-8C609-AA.
ACTION: Use the following diagnostic procedure to determine if a new design cooling fan relay is required.
1. Turn the ignition key from "RUN" to "OFF" and then back to "RUN".
2. Switch the A/C to the "ON" position.
3. Turn the A/C from "ON" to "OFF" repeatedly at least three (3) times.
4. If the A/C is disabled while cycling, install a new cooling fan relay, E93Z-8Z658-A.
NOTE: MAKE SURE THE WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) INPUT IS HIGH AND THE A/C CYCLING PRESSURE SWITCH IS CLOSED.
