1. Mount steering gear in holding fixture tool No. D87P-3504-B or equivalent.
2. Remove outer tie rod ends and locknuts.
3. Remove clamps retaining bellows to gear housing, then remove bellows and breather tube.
4. With a sharp chisel, gently tap around rivet head so it lifts away from ball joint, Fig. 18.
5. Use side cutters to pry out drive pin, Fig. 19.
6. Position rack so several teeth are exposed. Hold hack with an adjustable wrench on end teeth only, while loosening ball joints nuts with yoke locknut tool No. T81P-3504-G or equivalent.

Assembly

1. With several rack teeth exposed, hold rack with an adjustable wrench and tighten each tie rod ball joint assembly to specifications using yoke locknut tool T81P-3504-G or equivalent.
2. Install a new rivet in tie rod ball housing until pin is flush with rivet head, Fig. 20.
3. Install bellows and breather tube.
4. Install tie rod outer ends.
