Track Assembly
RemovalNOTE: Escort is shown in the illustrations. Tempo/Topaz is similar.
1. Remove A-pillar and B-pillar garnish mouldings.
2. Cycle shoulder belt retainer full forward.
3. Disconnect electrical switch connectors at A and B-pillars.
4. Remove plug button from shoulder belt anchor cover.
5. Remove Torx(R) head screw retaining shoulder belt anchor to shoulder belt retainer and disconnect shoulder belt anchor.
6. Remove two screws retaining drive belt track to motor.
7. Remove one screw, adjacent to motor, retaining vertical drive belt guide.
8. On three-door Escort models, remove screw retaining lower drive belt guide.
9. Carefully disconnect drive belt track from motor, allowing belt to pass by gear teeth without engagement.
10. Remove screw from A-pillar bracket to A-pillar.
11. Remove screw from B-pillar bracket support plate.
12. Remove 7/16-inch Torx(R) bolt at B-pillar.
13. Remove screws from overhead track retaining clips.
14. Disengage vertical guide release tab at B-pillar bracket.
15. Rotate track inboard to remove track limit switch retaining tab from slot in A-pillar.
16. Slide drive belt out of vertical guide.
Installation
1. Insert drive belt in vertical guide.
2. Rotate retaining tab on limit switch bracket into slot in A-pillar.
3. Engage vertical guide retaining tab into B-pillar bracket.
4. Install 7/16-inch Torx(R) bolt at B-pillar.
5. Install screws in B-pillar bracket support plate.
6. Install screws in overhead track attaching clips.
7. Install screw retaining A-pillar switch bracket to A-pillar.
8. Position drive belt guide at motor. Align drive belt and guides as required to ensure no binding prior to installing two screws.
9. On three-door Escort models, install screw adjacent to motor retaining lower drive belt guide.
10. Connect electrical connectors.
11. Check system operation.
12. Install garnish mouldings.
