Valve Cover: Service and Repair

Cylinder Head Assembly & Emissions Components:





1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove oil filler cap.
3. Disconnect PCV hose from PCV valve.
4. Disconnect throttle linkage cable from rocker arm cover.
5. Disconnect speed control cable from rocker arm cover, if equipped.
6. Remove rocker arm cover bolts and cover.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following Technical Service Bulletin:
a. If mold-in-place gasket is damaged by cuts longer than 1/8 inch, or by more than three nicks or cuts (any size), replace entire rocker cover assembly.
b. If damaged, replace rubber isolators (part No. E83Z-6C518-A) or washer bolt and rubber isolator assembly, (part No. E93Z-6C519-A).
c. Put one drop of adhesive tread lock (part No. ESE-M2G260-AA) on bolts if they are to be reused, failure to do so may result in oil leakage.
d. Torque rocker cover assembly to specifications.
