ISSUE: Oil leaking from around the engine oil filter may be caused by an oil filter that is improperly sealed to the engine mounting surface. This may be caused by an oil filter mounting insert that is too short.

ACTION: Install a new longer oil filter mounting insert. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

CAUTION: BEFORE THE SEAL CONTACTS THE MOUNTING SURFACE, MAKE SURE THE OIL FILTER TURNS AT LEAST TWO AND A HALF TURNS AFTER STARTING ON THE THREADS.

1. Remove the oil filter.

Figure 1:

2. Using a 7/16" hex Allen wrench, remove the oil filter mounting insert, Figure 1.

3. Using channel lock pliers, install a new oil filter mounting insert, (E6DZ-6890-A).
NOTE: THE NEW INSERT MUST BE TIGHTENED TO BOTTOM OUT ON THE THREADS SO THE INSERT WILL NOT LOOSEN WHEN REMOVING THE OIL FILTER.

4. Install a new oil filter and top off the crankcase with clean engine oil.
